Cheer Up Our Seniors during COVID-19
A Project Funded by Alliance of Chinese Americans San Diego

Background
The coronavirus is a worldwide pandemic that has spread over the course of many months. Around the globe, the virus has profoundly impacted our health, schools, business, social economics, and may change how humans interact with each other forever. During the outbreak, the elderly population is impacted more due to their preexisting health conditions which make them more vulnerable and susceptible to the risk of virus infection. Those who are impacted the most are the men and women living in retirement homes or senior centers. Before the pandemic, they could have visits from family members, along with groups of individuals coming in to provide care and entertainment for them. However, due to the risk of virus transmission, these visitors and performers are no longer allowed to visit, and many of the seniors are feeling isolated and depressed. So I was wondering what if people could perform virtually, or send in entertainment on videos to the seniors? I got my inspiration from the “One World Together At Home” show organized by Lady Gaga. My proposal is that we could gather performances from kids in southern California and schedule on-line virtual performances with retirement homes or senior centers. Alternatively, we could collect videos of individual performances and edit them into short movies and send them to these places. This way, the seniors would have entertainment to watch, with absolutely no risk of getting infected with the virus and the kids will have a way to showcase their talents and contribute to our society by cheering up our seniors! We could even ask for donations and fund-raising for medical care for seniors.
