Background
Through our non-profit organization, which currently includes over 500 members in our server from over 20 countries, we have been pushing for enhanced bioinformatics education for all students. We have already run a bioinformatics hackathon (a computer science project competition); put out numerous blog posts about fields ranging from neuroscience to bioluminescence; started online tutoring in math, computer science, and biology; and even raised money to donate more than 300 masks to healthcare workers and hospitals in need. While our primary mission is bioinformatics for all, we are adjusting our efforts to help with COVID-19 relief. Here's our website: https://www.helyx.science
Goal
The COVID-19 pandemic is plagued with misinformation and rumors causing fear across the nation. Our goal for this project is to spread truthful information about the virus and how to protect yourself from it regularly. We will put out resources for everyone to view so that people, specifically targeting students, will know the truth.
Method
We will utilize our already extremely large following on Instagram, @thehelyxinitiative, https://www.instagram.com/thehelyxinitiative/ with over 700 STEM-oriented followers to put out this information. As you can see, we are currently using Canva and Lumen5 Free Editions, which work but are very limited. With Canva Pro and Lumen5 Pro, we will be able to put out far more engaging content and at a higher volume.
