The Refugee Students STEM summer camp is organized by the ROOTS Club (Refugee Children’s  of Technology and Science. The campers are all refugee students from around the world but currently legally residing in San Diego. They are mainly middle school and elementary school students aged from 9-13. ROOTS provides hands-on experiments in Chemistry, Math, Biology, Engineering and Physics. The ROOTS team volunteers organize and instruct the camp. A detailed syllabus is carefully developed by ROOTS to fit the unique needs of refugee students. ROOTS also invites professors and researchers from local universities and institutes as guest speakers for our camp to inspire the campers and encourage the love for STEM.
The camp is a week long and free of charge. All experiment materials and supplies are provided by ROOTS through fundraising and sponsorship from local non-profits. Due to the campers being from extremely low-income families, snacks, drinks and simple meals will also be provided by ROOTS free-of-charge so that the kids don't have to study with an empty stomach.
