Project Abstract: 

Our “Uniting the World Through Movement” project seeks to educate individuals from all ethnic backgrounds about Chinese culture through dance. Our team, which consists of Ellen Wang, Lily Huang, and Athena Luo will be performing and/or teaching Chinese folkloric dance to connect people with Chinese culture and further their exchange through shared passions for dancing. Our team hopes to host performances and opportunities for cultural exchange as well as informative activities to showcase Chinese culture and dance for individuals of all ages and backgrounds within our communities. Chinese folkloric dance allows people to learn about Chinese culture through a unique method of showcasing traditional stories, values, and customs through movement and music—we hope to emphasize that connection between specific styles of Chinese folkloric dance and their cultural themes, practices, and tales. Recognizing this relationship, we want to share the history and traditions of various Chinese ethnic groups in a more interactive experience—we wish to transform engagement with Chinese culture into an enjoyable and meaningful activity. Unlike standard education methods, our unique plan for cultural promotion allows individuals to learn about Chinese culture while actively immersing in traditional activities.
