Sunshine for Neurodiversity

Project Abstract:
The Sunshine for Neurodiversity Summer Program offers neurodivergent middle and high school students a safe, supportive, and fun environment to enjoy the outdoors, strengthen their bodies and minds, build lasting friendships, and celebrate their creativity through art and movement. We plan to run eight workshops during the summer on Saturdays. For many children and families, the current landscape of friendships and social spaces can feel unwelcoming. Such spaces are often lacking in flexibility and inclusivity, leaving little room for children who are neurodiverse. We will help children with neurodevelopmental differences practice friendship-building skills and connect through social opportunities. Inclusion is the practice of making someone part of a group. It ensures that those who might otherwise be excluded, such as people with disabilities or members of marginalized groups, have the same rights, choices, and access to opportunities as others in the community.
