(March 29, 2022) Today, Alliance of Chinese Americans San Diego (ACA) issued a statement on the recent killing of Dr. Yan Li by San Diego County deputy sheriffs and San Diego police officers. In the statement, ACA questioned the tactics used by the police in conducting the service of a “notice to evict”, the actions taken by the law enforcement officers that escalated the situation and eventually resulted in Dr. Yan Li’s death, and the guidelines and trainings required for the officers in the eviction process. ACA also points out the urgent need of requiring a mandatory training to all law enforcement officers when dealing with mental health crisis. ‘We are calling for an independent investigation into the police shooting death of Dr. Yan Li’, said Ms. Sunny Rickard, the President of ACA.
ACA will host a coordinated press conference with supporting organizations soon.
