2019 API YOUTH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

​Alliance of Chinese Americans of San Diego (ACA) announces the inauguration of  API Youth Internship program and invites college students of ethnic Asian Pacific Islanders to apply.

The objectives of the internship program are to train and cultivate future civic leaders, as well as to build strong relationship between local government and API community.  In addition, the program aims to inspire API youth for active civic engagement.    

​ACA is the San Diego partner of CLUSA and has arranged internship positions with local government offices listed below.  ACA will work with the finalists to place them in selective offices, based on their interest, skill and qualifications.  

   Congressman Scott Peters
   California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria
   San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher
   San Diego City Councilmember Chris Cate
   San Diego City Councilmember Mark Kersey
   San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan

Some of the interns will be compensated by the offices while all interns are eligible to receive a scholarship from CLUSA upon successful completion of internship.

​The schedule of each internship is flexible throughout the year and last for weeks to months.

​ELIGIBILITY
  1. Residents or students attending schools in San Diego County.
  2. Must be a U.S Citizen and a descendant of Asian Pacific Island origin.
  3. Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of application.
  4. Must be currently or to be enrolled in 2019 as a full-time college student.
​QUALIFICATIONS
  1. A strong interest in civic engagement and community service. 
  2. A strong interest in learning public policy and the legislative process.
  3. Excellent communication as well as analytical and research skills.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills in working with both colleagues and community.
  5. Professional work ethics and independent time management skills.
  6. Mature judgment and commitment to following all governing rules and ethics laws.
