ACA Has Received Two Grants
September 12, 2021
Alliance of Chinese Americans San Diego (ACA) announced today that it has been awarded two grants.
ACA was recently selected as one of the ten organizations to receive a $50,000 grant from Qualcomm Racial Justice Giving Initiative (Qualcomm RJGI). RJGI is to fund new programs that enrich lives and bring positive changes to the world. This award is in recognition of the commitment, accomplishment, and the leadership of ACA San Diego in driving systemic changes in racial justice and equity, as well as to support to expand the ACA’s current internship program and fund additional AAPI youth civic engagement programs. ACA was also one of the final five organizations that RJGI selected from the Grant recipients to give a live presentation which Qualcomm broadcasted to its worldwide employees.
ACA is also the recipient of a $2,000 grant from San Diego Chinese Women Associate (SDCWA). The grant is for the COVID-19 initiated project for API youth students to develop pandemic related community service programs and the API youth internship program partnering with local government to encourage civic participation and leadership.
ACA President Ms. Chenyang (Sunny) Rickard attended Qualcomm RJGI’s presentation and board member Jeff He attended SDCWA’s award ceremony. They showcased ACA’s past achievements as well as plans for future programs.
Since 2019, with direct assistance of local government offices, ACA has spearheaded an API Youth Internship program that helps to train and cultivate future leaders. The highlights of the past community service programs include, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, ACA raised the fund to sponsor a wide variety of projects led by local middle- and high-schoolers to bring positive impacts to the community; On March 2021, within days of the Atlanta spa shootings, ACA organized a candlelight vigil to honor the victims and bring attention to hate crimes against Asians. Since then, ACA has been actively organizing community events and discussion forums to facilitate the engagements between the API community and government officials.
