Background
Me and Hanxi are leaders of the Super Joey San Diego team and we are dedicated to helping unhealthy children by fundraising, visiting and cooking dinner for them and their families. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, many sick children are forced to stay at home because of their poor immunity. The mother of a young patient, KK, who suffers from brain cancer contacted us for help. We realized that we need to do something even though we can’t leave the house. KK is only 5-year-old, and his family just immigrated from China a few years ago. After we learn KK’s conditions and situation, we lead our team to discuss and make plans to accompany KK. Then we manage different teens teaching different classes for KK like English class and Drawing class. We hope that besides making KK not lonely anymore, we should also teach him some more knowledge at the same time. Hanxi and me are not only responsible for organizing the activities of KK, but also set connections between the other volunteers and KK. We will do as much as we can to support him and hope that he will pass the pandemic safely. Besides helping KK and some other children (on progress) directly through online teaching, we also want to help more children. Ronald McDonald House San Diego stopped volunteer cooking service because of the pandemic. But we want to donate meals and other supplies. We fundraise on social media for the sick children and their families in Ronald McDonald House. We already donated a meal for 120 people successfully. And we are planning to keep raising money for children at Ronald McDonald House during this pandemic.

Goal
During this special period, we aim to help children with illness and evoke social awareness. We want to gather a group of teenagers who care about children’s education to teach and accompany the children in hospital online. We also plan to deliver meals to children and families living in Ronald McDonald House by fundraising on social media.

KK is a little boy fighting cancer, and we have kept supporting him since the beginning of 2020. He had an operation in July in San Diego, and is recovering these days. KK has not only been a student of us, but also truly a friend and a person we care about. We hope to do something to make him feel better. We decide to continue the classes we have done with him before, but this time we are going to give him more choices on having the class because we don’t want to give too much pressure on him. KK told us the classes he likes the most, and we are going to start the classes in August.

Through fundraise, we have successfully collected enough money to order food for the kids and families living in Ronald Mcdonald’s House. On July 15, we bring meals for 100 people. We hope the meal can bring the kids with cancer the joy.
During this quarantine, we have kept trying to reach out to help kids. After our interactions with Ronald Mcdonald’s House, we have a good and positive relationship. We found out there is a need to teach the kids living in Ronald Mcdonald’s House. Currently, we are designing the classes for the kids and discussing the details with Ronald Mcdonald’s House.
Thank ACA so much for the check of $500, we decide to use half of this money to buy the materials for our teaching class. Since we are trying to create a diverse and interesting schedule for the kids, we are not only going to focus on only English and Maths, we are going to have drawing class and handcraft class, so we are going to use the money on buying necessary materials.
